This simple looking site has an excellent overview on how cabling is used and
which types should be used for what. Each link leads to a page with a very clear
picture
of cable types and connectors. Also included are the types of networking set
ups that you might use this in.

Technical Remarks:

deceptive....looks like a simple site, but has LOTS of material.
