Capstone is a COMERCIAL Business Strategy simulation - based on the idea that "The best way to learn about a business is to run a business". The game consists of two components, a website and a Decision Support software Microsoft Excel disc. The players (students) buy the software package and then, usually as a group "run there busines, posting the results of their decisions on the Web site. Students not only compete with their own classmates; but can compete nationwide with other class groups in terms of the success of their strategic major business functional decisions. The Web site offers examples of the data spread sheets used, and copies of a number of using professors comments and even their syllabi.
I really enjoyed using the simulation and so did my students. Many had never taken an accounting course before and all are studying to be chefs- despite these challenges, we found the simulation greatly enhanced the learning experience in the Cost Control class.
I really enjoyed the online tutorials and the optional writing assignments as well. The tutorials allowed the students to review material at their own pace and the additional writing assignments enhanced both critical thinking skills and the writing across the curriculum requirements for the college
The tech support personnell are wonderful. We experienced a few problems with Windows NT and they were able to walk us through them. The students were very impressed with the help and support that was available.
