A very good tutorial on the UNIX system, organized very well. The use of figures
or diagrams would enhance the learning experience of this site.

Good use of exercises with solutions so the students can test themselves on what
they have learned.
Used in course

This is a very good tutorial which can be used to introduce students to the UNIX
operating systems.

However, there is mostly textual information with few diagrams and links. It
would be more useful if it was broken down into components which would allow the
user to better determine what information they wanted without a lot of
scrolling. Use of color to separate the different headings and examples would
also be useful.

Exercises are included which could be assigned by the instructor.

A liked the way the author started out with a basic description/definition of
UNIX and built upon that. The listing of simple commands was great.

Technical Remarks:

Text a little cryptic-looking but very readable.

1. I spent about an hour reading through the material.
2. The information appears to be very accurate, and the author should be
complemented for presenting such a complex project in such a simplified way.
3. Again, the content is very informational, but because of the subject matter I
would recommend more diagrams or illustrations. The straight text along with
the complicated UNIX subject matter makes it difficult to understand. I did
appreciate the numerous examples and exercises located throughout, but again
they could be complemented with some additional illustrations.
4. The module is quite simple to use. Navigational buttons provided allow the
user to easily move from chapter to the next.

I spent 15 minutes browsing this basic tutorial. The content is definitely
presented from a beginner level. The information is well organized and thorough.
A student new to this subject matter area could easily follow the content.
