Introduction to IC Forum

This video was recorded at 3rd European Conference on ICT for Transport Logistics (ECITL), Bremen 2010. The organizers of the last conferences in Lucerne and Venice are happy and even a bit surprised by the outcome of the events regarding the response and acceptance received from industry users in the logistics sector and the high awareness of the importance of ICT to them, which could be increasingly recognized in the last events. We knew ICT for Transport Logistics is a key subject for researchers and engineers, but we were also aware of taking a risk in trying to bring them and real users from the logistics industry together in the same event. The professional participation and the stimulating debates we had the last times, involving the audience and the speakers, proved that the risk was worth taking. Alongside the community of ICT researchers and EU projects consortium members there is a high-valuable community of stakeholders in logistics who have requirements and ideas to help us pursuing real and valuable innovations in this field. Scope: The increased importance of ICT systems for the implementation of new holistic green logistics concepts has been recognized by stakeholders and researchers in the logistics sector. Therefore this year's conference has a special focus on the adoption of green logistics concepts supported by modern intelligent ICT systems. The conference took a look into different subjects related to these topics, e.g. the lack of available information in transport logistics, and it was explained how ICT can support information and process integration to overcome current economic and environmental challenges. Topics at the conference included green logistics concepts and interoperable platforms for close cooperation in supply networks and logistics operations, additionally addressing different aspects, e.g. security, visibility, intelligent cargo and vehicles, from both business and technical points of view, including academic research. The conference homepage can be found at ECITL 2010.
