Why should pancreatic beta-cells become resistant to glucose?

Why should pancreatic beta-cells become resistant to glucose?

This video was recorded at Max-Planck Institute and Faculty of Medicine University of Maribor Partner symposium on Communicating Physiology. During the past decades the development of the molecular biology by far exceeded the progress in physiology. Many sub disciplines of physiology emerged and expanded over the limits of their mother discipline. This resulted in a lack in physiological understanding of many molecularly very well-defined components. The major scientific goal of the meeting will be to define and attempt to bridge this gap and allow scientists to address their results in a physiological context. We will cover three physiological topics from Neuroscience, Endocrinology and Cardiac Physiology. More about the event at http://www.mf.uni-mb.si/fizio/Meeting2010/index.htm
