Description:
This collection contains useful websites that could greatly enhance Biology lessons.

Authorized users only:

1.

Evolution

Added 07/11/2011
This website is great for teaching evolution. It contains many animations, videos, simulations and activities that help students understand concept of evolution. One particular activity that I liked was a simulation activity that allowed a student to become scientists that travels to Trinidad and investigates guppies found in small streams. Students collect data, formulate hypothesis and run series of experiments that allows them to understand concept of natural selection and sexual selection and how they interplay and affect population of guppies.
2.

DNA from the Beginning

Added 07/11/2011
This is a great website for learning abut genetics and molecular biology . Students are able to use animations, simulations and countless activities that make understanding of molecular biology and genetics easier. In my Biology lesson I could use DNA replication animation which allows students better understanding of the process or use activity that makes understanding of clasical genetics easier.
3.

Virtual Bacterial Identification Lab

Added 07/11/2011
This laboratory simulation is a part of virtual lab series created by Howard Hughes Medical Institute. It allows students to familiarize with the science and techniques used to identify different types of bacteria based on their DNA sequences. It is an excellent simulation for understanding molecular biology techniques.
4.

Plants in Motion

Added 07/11/2011
The website provides access to movies that show many plants processes like germination, flowering, photomorphogenesis and general growth. The movies on this site show a variety of plants living out their dynamic lives. The movies are made by using time-lapse photography which allows to easily see the movements of plants and clearly demonstrates that plants are living organisms capable of some extraordinary things. When the images are viewed in rapid succession the effect is to compress into a short period, the changes that occurred over a relatively long period of time.
5.

The eSkeletons Project

Added 07/11/2011
This website is very useful for learning skeletal anatomy. It enables student to view bones of both human and non-human primates and to gather information about them in osteology database. It provides very interactive environment where students can explore every singles bone from six different angles and get detailed information about it.
