Description:
Here are some materials that I have collected and used in a 10th grade Biology classroom to teach a unit on DNA, RNA, and Protein Synthesis.

Authorized users only:

1.

My Science Box

Added: 03/07/2012
I used two Lessons out of here: I adapted the Secret Codes activity to include more practice and asking the students to answer some questions about how the activity related to transcription and translation. The Comic Strip activity serves as a great assessment to see if students understand the relationships between DNA, RNA, and Protein Synthesis in a fun, artistic way.

Molecular Visualizations of DNA

Added: 03/07/2012
Different clips of this video can be used depending on what you're teaching- for example, I used the first part as we talked about coiling and replication, the next part when we talked about transcription and the next when we talked about translation. It can also be used as a great review for students. I like using short clips like this because it's an opportunity for students to hear scientific language from someone other than me, and it's short enough (and visually interesting enough) to keep their attention.

The Double Helix

Added: 03/07/2012
Students love competing and watching others play this game on the projector. This interactive activity involves students in practicing the rules of base pairing in a fun way!
5.

Karyotypying for Genetic Disorders

Added: 03/07/2012
I used this to help teach chromosomal mutations. The students loved this activity, and they liked having the backstories that the activity begins with for patients A, B, and C!
