Communication is like fashion, always changing with new an improved styles, fits, colors, and latest trends. Communication again like fashion also has key cornerstone items, building block clothes that every wardrobe should have, classic pieces that are ageless, and no matter the season or the decade these foundation items help to build a wardrobe.

I found that this semester I did a lot of purging of old clothes, and also some integrating of some new items that I hope to be foundation pieces, I am still working on breaking those pieces in. Clothing and communication have many similarities, different ways of expressing ones self and also having the freedom to change our minds, try on different looks, express how we feel, and use the same items over and over. Fashion and communication are always in vogue.

This semester we were challenges to not only reflect on what we do well or how well we look in our communication style, but how we can tweak our image to project a stronger more well rounded us. Just like fashion we all have our favorite pieces of clothes to wear over and over, but the fun part of shopping is to try on different items, that is what this semester was all about, shopping. Shopping to see what ways of communication we liked, what did and did not work for us, and what items did we decide to buy to make apart of our wardrobe, and maybe we even found a new favorite piece.

Asking myself about my communication style allowed me to state what my communication strengths and challenges are, strive to utilizes and implement improvements in my communication style. I was able to do this by using our journal articles, and with the help of our diversity dialogues, allowed me to shop at a few different kinds of stores I may not of normally go into. I will recapture my journal article findings, making and implementing a communication plan, executing that plan in my personal and every day life and also in our diversity dialogues. I am also continuously using these tools long after the class is over to help me create the perfect style.

The area of communication that was challenging for me and that I knew I wanted to work on was listening, not always filling the silence, and not always cutting people off with my opinion. All areas that I will continue to work on long after this paper. First off the diversity dialogue helped me in a professional stand point remember to stop talking all the time. Knowing that I was going into these almost therapy session kinds of experiences and I was in charge of letting others talk, and be heard. Having this kind of mind frame really helped me to keep myself in check. Letting me remind myself it is ok to just listen, I did not always need to have my opinion heard.
