Types and Effects of Volcano Hazards

Added 09/27/2012

I particularly like and trust this resource because it is located on the USGS website, and is a place where I find myself going to a lot for up to date, content rich resources for students of any age. This resource reviews the various types of hazards an average citizen living near a volcano might experience and offers a variety of display options for teachers. The collection reviews six main hazards associated with volcanoes which gaseous emissions, lahars, landslides, lava flows, pyroclastic flows, and tephra. In each hazard section, students can engage in something as simple as a reading activity, or something as complicated as analyzing volcanic gas content data from specific plate margins. I particularly like the range of activities that could be formulated from this website and how it could be coupled with other resources very easily.
