Not sure how I got this link about whale evolution, but the wbsite on Teaching the nature of science contain great information on how to engage students in inquiry-based learning, and offers practical guide in successful discovery learning. Information presented here upholds and reinforces the unifying concepts that is so important to teach to our students now a days.  Whale evolution was just one segment of myriad of other teaching topics they offer insights on how to teach.
