Websites

Authorized users only:

1.

Pangaea Zoo School.com (Animation of break up, model of Earth's layers, and models of plate boundaries)

Added 09/21/2013

I could use this website for multiple lessons within the high school Earth Science Dynamic Earth Unit including lessons on plate tectonics and the evidence of plate movement. What I like best about this website is its presentation of attractive images and easily understandable animations.

2.

Tsunami animation

Added 09/21/2013

Tsunamis are taught under high school Earth Science Scope and Sequence Unit 2: Dynamic Earth.  This video simulation would be very useful during a lesson on Tsunamis.  It provides a great visual for students thereby allowing for better comprehension/clarity of the content.

3.

The Rock Cycle

Added 09/21/2013

This PowerPoint presentation provides very useful content about the three rock types and their formation (i.e. definitions and explanations), a great pictorial representation of the rock cycle, as well as a short quiz.  This PowerPoint presentation and included animations would be very useful to teach a lesson about the rock cycle. This topic falls under Unit 3 of the Earth Science Scope and Sequence (Rocks and Minerals).

4.

Layers of the Earth's Atmopshere

Added 09/21/2013

I can use this website specifically to teach a lesson on the layers of the atmosphere (Earth Science Scope and Sequence Unit 7: Meteorology).  A similiar diagram depicting the layers of the atmosphere is included in the High School Earth Science Regents Reference Table. This website could also be used to help students understand and read the diagram in their Earth Science Reference Tables.

5.

earthquake types: savage earth

Added 09/21/2013

Earthquakes are taught under Earth Science Scope and Sequence Unit 2: Dynamic Earth. I could use this website to teach the topic of earthquakes in an Earth Science class. It provides useful content as well as easy to follow animations of faults and P-, S- and surface waves.
