This website contains labs, activities and assessments on almost every science topic. Virtual biology labs allow students to explore topics of biology that can’t actually be done in a high school classroom. Many aspects of biology require high-end laboratory equipment that is not realistic for a high school student to use. Also, many areas of biology are very abstract. These virtual computer labs and activities allow students to perform tasks on almost every topic they learn. They are interactive and fun, but also require thinking and an understanding of the material taught in class. This website also enables you to put together a lesson plan using their materials and your own. You can assign homework activities on the site which students can access at home. The website gives teachers additional resources including exam questions, quizzes, and already made lesson plans. I would use this website often in teaching biology because it contains so many useful resources. Specifically however, I would use this to teach a chapter involve microbiology, whether it be biochemistry or any other topic involving abstract ideas that students can’t normally “see.” The activities and videos on the website allow students to view what occurs during photosynthesis, cellular respiration, mitosis, etc.
