DNAi is an interactive website created by the Dolan DNA Learning Center. It contains information about the structure of DNA and its discovery, PCR, the Human Genome Project, and current applications of genetics. DNAi presents this information through several different user-friendly activities that include an interactive timeline, interactive and video animations, and interactive quizzes and games. For example, one interactive quiz is named How Unique are You? Using cartoon drawings to highlight the differences between different inheritable traits of sixteen different characteristics, the quiz asks you to click on the image that best describes your trait. For each characteristic (i.e, hair color, eye color, eyelid shape, etc.), the student is able to click a button on more information about that characteristic. The quiz ends by comparing you to those who previously took the quiz; each characteristic is accompanied by a pie-chart detailing the results of previous test-takers. The activities found on DNAi are useful teaching aids. How Unique are You? can be used as an introduction to genetic variation in a Living Environment Class. For example, students sitting in groups of two could be given laptops (if available) to complete this quiz in class. Alternatively, this quiz can be projected onto the board and a few students can volunteer to complete the quiz in front of the class.
