ClassZone is a website sponsored by McDougal Littell. The website features interactive animations, virtual labs, assessments, activities, and other resources. One interactive animation under the Ecology unit called Build a Food Web, asks students to drag and drop different organisms in their respective trophic levels in a cartoon wetland ecosystem. If the student is incorrect, a hint appears.
The activities found on ClassZone are useful teaching aids. Specifically, the Build a Food Web interactive animation can be used as a part of an ecology lesson in a Living Environment class. Paired with the interactive Ecology quiz, in which students can answer five ecology questions, this animation helps students to understand the flow of energy and an organism’s role in an ecosystem. This activity could be done as a review at home or in the classroom.
