The Online Master of Science in Global eLearning equips specialists in education for practice in public education, private education, business, industry, and non-profit organizations. Learning and technology are intertwined as we develop the next generation of enhanced training, development, and teaching to engage learners with key components of instructional technology. Technology provides access to all forms of education and this program will teach educators how to implement technology across curricula and classrooms of all kinds. With a blend of theory and technical skills, this program will prepare teachers and corporate trainers alike.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Metacognition - Students will demonstrate the knowledge and skills for designing, developing, and evaluating personal strategies for learning and leading.

2. Communication - Students will communicate ideas and content to actively engage participants.

3. Digital Fluency - Students will evidence digital fluency in the adoption and integration of appropriate technologies into digital presentations.

4. Cultural Fluency - Students will evidence understanding of generational and cultural learning styles.

5. Global Fluency - Students will develop instructional materials appropriate for a global perspective.

6. Servant Leadership - Students will practice the principles of servant leadership as espoused by Robert Greenleaf.

7. Commitment to Life-Long Learning - Students will evidence a commitment to lifelong learning in the production and evaluation of learning materials.

This course provides an overview of the factors that have resulted in the globalization of education. The ramifications of globalization on education will be analyzed. Topics include the impact of colonialism on the world system, an examination of the media’s influence and it’s effect on globalization, the process of developing an intercultural competency will be developed. Also, the foundations for multicultural teaching will be examined. The process for developing intercultural sensitivity will be explored along with other relevant issues for developing intercultural competency.

Intercultural Education

This course provides an introduction to intercultural education in a global context. Topics include an overview of culture, communication and interpersonal relationship, nonverbal codes and cultural space. The implications of the 21st century classroom as a global community will be examined along with the process for getting to know another culture. The challenges that are presented in intercultural education will be discussed from the perspective of nurturing and welcoming the changes.

Topics include a comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of the generational styles of learning, parallels between the different generations, facilitating collaboration between the generations rather than isolating the cohort experience of each generation, the learning style of the different generations and a pedagogy for the 21st century.

Designing and Evaluating Curriculum

Emphasis will be placed on formulating course goals and objectives and on developing a variety of measurement instruments. Utilizing Effective Instructional Technologies

Students will create an Online Course Shell to develop their skills in building learning materials to be integrated for online delivery. Students will learn how Web 2.0 technologies are impacting education. Students will analyze some innovative ways to integrate Web 2.0 technologies for education. A description of the paradox of utilizing technology for education will be given. Innovative examples of integrating Web 2.0 Technology for education will also be examined.


Organization and Implementation of Work Based Learning

This course provides an introduction to the organization and implementation of work-based learning programs. Topics include the organizational environment and an analysis of the types of organizational programs needed to address organizational culture and needs. The course also includes an overview of legal issues. The process for conducting and implementing a needs assessment will be examined. Specific legal issues to meet the training needs of specific organizations will be identified.

This course is designed to help teachers and trainers move their training and facilitation skills to the next level of performance. Topics cover a wealth of issues including where to begin with online learning. For example, how to use case studies, conduct inventories, exercises, games, and simulations, facilitate role-plays, as well as conduct effective and safe demonstrations. The use of technology to develop effective, transformational online learning experiences will also be discussed.


Capstone in Global eLearning

This is a capstone course for the Master of Science Degree in the Global eLearning program. Topics include an analysis of servant leadership, a discussion of effective strategies for working in the field of global eLearning with special attention given to globalization, the appreciation of human diversity, and a commitment to life-long learning. The course will include assessment of student mastery of all programmatic learning outcomes for the MS in the Global eLearning program.
