I like how this lesson makes use of so many technologies, and that there are many different options for students to choose from as far as technology goes. This really gives students an opportunity to create a unique project that represents their vision. This lesson’s use of technology is authentic in that without the videos and cameras/iPads, students would not get the full experience of the lesson. By watching the videos and using cameras, iPads, and other resources, students have a great opportunity to see the different elements of a news story and then create one of their own. There is also a great opportunity for student collaboration at the end of the lesson by allowing students to share reports and choose roles for making a news story. The teacher also makes sure to scaffold students throughout the lesson by reminding them of various skills and topics that have been previously learned about (such as elements of a news story), as well as supporting students in the editing of their news video. Differentiation opportunities are allowed for as well, in providing various technology/app choices as well as differentiate news articles to read. Overall, the lesson seems very practical and easy to follow, providing the teacher has the resources available. Other technologies could easily be substituted (flip cameras, video cameras, etc), which makes the lesson even more versatile and adaptable.
