I am a middle school band director. I spent a lot of time reviewing this website and I think it is outstanding!! I used it as part of a web quest that I made. It tells you all about the orchestra and the instruments that are involved. It is extremely interactive and fun to use as well as being a truely educational site. Even though it was intended for students up through middle school, I personally think anyone would enjoy it. It tells you about each instrument as well as giving you a picture of it and even has the sound each instrument makes. Even though most of the sounds are synthesized, they are very close to the real thing, so I was pleased with that. It even goes in to talking about the basics, tempo, rhythm, pitch, etc. and lets you actually here the differences between them. It also gives you the dates of performances of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. It even lets you play a tune using a keyboard on the performulator site and then lets you compose on the composerizer site. It also has a "radio section" that lets you interact by changing the stations and hearing different music that the orchestra has played, giving you descriptions of each piece. I do wish it had the saxophone listed as one of the instruments, but of course that is not a standard instrument in the orchestra.Technical Remarks: You need to have Macromediamedia Flash Player 5.0 or higher to view material on this site. It does give you the site to download and does not take long to download. It is very user friendly and has a help section if you are having a problem. It also has a site map as well as a search area, which I think is great to have on a website.
