Learning Exercise

Point-Slope Form

Lesson were students will be able to change equations of line in point slope form into y-intercept form.
Course: Algebra I

Website for the Science & Mathematics Education Center of Fresno State University see more

Teacher notes: Remind students of key concepts from previous lesson. Due a warm-up problem to refresh students on slope-intercept form.

Technical Notes

Individual white boards for studnets, overhead projector, and graph paper.

Students should be able to: Graph lines of the form y = mx + b; compute slope between two points; solve equations for a given variable;and find a second point on a line given one point and a slope.

Y-Intercept Form, Point-Slope Form, Parallel Lines.

Learning Objectives

7.0 Student veify that a points lies on a line, given an equation of the line. Students are able to derive linear equations by using the point-slope formula. 8.0 Students understand the concepts of parallel lines and perpendicular lines and how those slopes are related. Students are able to find the equation of a line perpendicular to a given line that passes through a given point.

To assess the gained knowledge one would use the whiteboards and homework to see if the student understood the concepts.
