Learning Exercise

Peppered moth simulation

I like to use this after going over Natural Selection. Students simulate peppered moths in a variety of environments to see how the population of moths changes over time. This can be done individually on a computer by students or done as a class activity.

Technical Notes

Use of a laptop w/ internet access as well as a LCD projector may be used.

Requirements

Basic understanding of natural selection and how organisms change over time.

Topics

Evolution, Natural Selection

Learning Objectives

Students will get a better understanding of how populations change over time depending on their environments.

Assessment

I like to have students answer questions from a worksheet I have made as well as graph results according to environments used.
