Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
This module aligns with the Common Core and Standards for the 21st Century Learner from the AASL. It aligns nicely with these accepted standards and provides a standardized assessment for information literacy skills.
Concerns:
This is not a concern with TRAILS itself, but the module does require a context in order to be effective. Students are highly unlikely to stumble upon it and complete an assessment, which should not be seen as a negative in any way.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
This assessment tool has very clear learning objectives. It tells how to use the assessment and also gives ideas for use. It assesses every step of being an information literate student understanding how to develop a topic to understanding what plagiarism is. It is very efficient and well organized and assignments could made from this. This quiz would be extremely helpful for any school media specialist who needs to assess student information literacy skills. It uses previously-identified learning outcomes to measure student learning.
Concerns:
Since it is a quiz and not a learning module, it does not build knowledge or demonstrate relationships. This is perfectly appropriate for a quiz of this type.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
This assessment tool is very easy to use and can be used on different grade levels. It is an engaging tool. It includes not only the student view, but also the expanded view. It also has a definition for each category.
Concerns:
None.
