Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
Strong and engaging video using some visuals
Uses examples to help explain the content
Simple explanations and good overview of content marketing
The presenter in this module is actively employed in content marketing, and as such, she is able to share not only about the subject matter, but best practices as well. Her topic is timely, and she appears well-informed in the content area. The use of PowerPoint-like graphics within the presentation adds to the visual learning aspect and creates reference notes for the user. The presentation is about 17 minutes long and provides both an informative and useful discussion of the topic. In addition, the presenter provides her contact information at the beginning and end of the presentation should students wish to reach out.
Concerns:
Since this presentation is a lecture-format, the delivery can be dry at times. The graphics do serve to break up the discussion as often as possible. Historic references to Napster may become too old for students to believe relevant. More visual exmaples to explain concepts would be nice.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
This presentation would serve well as an in-class video or homework viewing. It provides an overview of content marketing, including the evolution, steps involved, questions for thought, and practical tips. There is also a discussion of the needed skills of a content marketer and suggestions for developing those skills. Students could readily grasp the subject matter; the presenter even recommends a book for additional knowledge. Viewing of this video would provide the instructor with a timely resource to introduce the concept, or to review it.
Learning objectives in the form of questions are identified at the beginning of the video, which builds on concepts by starting with a short historic overview. This might be a very useful addition to advanced marketing courses.
Concerns:
The video is not designed to have an interactive component and does not come with associated assignments. Instructors would need to provide supplemental content if desired. No specific pre-requisite knowledge is detailed. Instructors may want to define some concepts and "jargon" used in the presentation, prior to assigning it.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The video is decently engaging, is housed on YouTube, and therefore can be used both inside and outside of the classroom and on multiple devices. For a student with some knowledge of marketing communication, especially, it is easy to follow, and the graphics are helpful. Since the video is also short, it allows for much content to be covered in a relatively quick format. It is easy to use, and the clean visual correlate to the closed captioning.
Concerns:
This reviewer did have some difficulty with the fluidity of the presentation (due to buffering), and therefore the effectiveness is dependent on Internet speed.
Other Issues and Comments:
Could use supplemental materials/links/citations to support learners/faculty
