This material provides a quick reference/reminder of some of the formulas, definitions, and identities used in trigonometry and calculus I, printable reference sheets, interactive graphs, and links to OER resources including a textbook, sample assignments, and video lectures.
Type of Material:
Reference Material
Recommended Uses:
This material could be used by students as for review/study or as a quick reference when working on homework problems individually or in class. This is a great site for instructors looking for additional materials to include in class. Interactive Desmos graphs could be used during lectures to help demonstrate concepts.
Technical Requirements:
Any Browser
Identify Major Learning Goals:
This site is to provide a reference for formulas, definitions, and identities used in trigonometry and calculus I.
Target Student Population:
Undergraduate students enrolled in Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Physics, or any course requiring trigonometry skills.
Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills:
Basic algebra
Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
This site is comprised of a variety of information including OER textbook links, instructional videos, printable reference sheets, and printable graph paper. There is a very comprehensive list of the most useful trigonometric formulas. Also included is a full trigonometry course shell including videos and assignments for each chapter connected to the OER textbook “Trigonometry” by Michael Corral.
Concerns:
Including solutions for all exercises would be helpful to students in using this site for self-study and review. Although the interactive Desmos graphs are intuitive to use, including a short descriptive paragraph for each graph might be helpful to students. The “area of sector ‘found here’ ” link is broken.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
Instructional videos are short and easily digestible for students. Goals for each video are included at the beginning of each video. It would be easy for an instructor to use the material and include them in an LMS. The selection of Desmos based visualizations is helpful for exploring the trigonometry that the instructor can easily incorporate into the class lessons.
Concerns:
Including solutions for all sample exams and assignments would be beneficial to students utilizing this material for self-study and review.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
Information is well organized and labelled. The site is easy to navigate. Having tabs at the top for each category and then a clear list under each tab works well. Videos are captioned.
Concerns:
Increasing the spacing between images would make it easier for students to process the information as well as add to the visual appeal.
Formulas and identities are included as images with no alt text.
The “graph paper” background in some of the videos could be distracting.
