This module is effective because it introduces the role of the human resource professional to students. While many have heard of the ?Human Resources Department?, they are frequently unaware of the complexities of the activities performed within the department. This site introduces students to the educational, personal and experiential requirements of the field, as well as providing an overview of the duties and expectations of the positions within the human resources field. SHRM is a very credible source, so the information provided at the site is of high quality. The salary information provided is as of 2001, which should be current information.
Concerns:
Although there are a few links to other sites, it would be helpful to be able to link to actual HR department pages at companies, in addition to the Jobs Available pages.

While this site is not informing academic concepts, that does not mean it is not a useful tool in the classroom. It is a good, general source for information about a career in HR. It provides an effective introduction to the field to familiarize students with the responsibilities of human resource professionals prior to a detailed lecture on the strategic role played by human resource managers in the success of the organization. Some of the information about the "Specialist" vs "Generalist" could certainly be developed for use in the classroom.

Other than information about a career in HR, there is very little information here that could be used by the professor.

the professional certification process, and graduate education in human resource management.
Concerns:
While the site is certainly easy to use, it is text driven. A more visually appealing, site (perhaps with photos, video clips etc.) may garner more attention from users.
