Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
This website includes a collection of links to materials for beginning, intermediate and advanced learners and teachers of Chinese. In the Materials for Beginners and Materials for Intermediate Learners sections, there is a module called Video Clips of Survival Chinese. This module was developed by the author, and it consists of texts with pop-up annotations, listening exercises, and suggestions for integrating the video clips into other teaching-learning materials.
Concerns:
The annotation for the ?Video Clips of Survival Chinese? in the section for beginners is missing. In the section for intermediate learners, there are only three links. More links be included to make this section more resourceful.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
With more links/resources, this website will be very useful for teachers and learners of Chinese language and culture at different levels of proficiency. Teachers can assign the various video clips to students for groups activities.
Concerns:
Since most resources are from external sites, we recommend that the author/teacher(s) check the links before referring students to the external sites.,
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The website is appealing with beautiful pictures and graphics. Navigation is relatively simple.
Concerns:
The main page of the website should have instruction on software requirements, with links to download the software/program(s). Although the links within the website work well, there are some external links that no longer work. Also, the video clips page does not have a button/link back to the main page or the previous page. Finally, we recommend that the author use drop-down menus for the beginning, intermediate, and advanced sections on the main page so that users can view the contents at a glance.
