Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
This site does what it intends to do very well. It presents on one page the sounds along with audio samples. The presentation limits itself to the basics and does not go into detail. The speakers enunciate clearly, and the sound files are of good quality.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
This site wants to introduce the basics in a no-frills way and succeeds in doing so. Anyone interested in the sounds of German will get the essential information in an uncomplicated manner.
Concerns:
Exercises or tasks are not provided, but then the site was not intended for this. Users/students could repeat the sounds and samples they hear and profit from the presentation.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
Everything about this site (consisting of only one page) is simple. The presentation is clear, and all material is easily accessible. The arrangement in columns works very well. The page consists of four major sections: vowels (and vowel combinations/diphthongs), consonants, select letter combinations, and the alphabet.
Concerns:
Depending on your software and how your computer's file system is set up, you may not be able to play the .mp3 files directly by clicking (the RealPlayer, for example, refuses to find the files in the temporary directory). The only solution in this case is to download the files by right-clicking, saving them and playing them from the hard drive.
