Overview: Education World refers to itself as the Educator's Best Friend! It provides
current and contemporary resources for teachers to use in their P-12 classrooms
as well as for their own professional development. Each day features news,
views, and particular lessons to use in response to the date, season, and/or
special requests. In addition, the site features technology in the classroom,
school issues, national concerns, ideas for administrators, special programs,
and a career center.

Recommended Uses: This site could be integrated into such teacher preparation courses as teaching
methods as well as foundations of education courses. Likewise, the site
provides a space and place for practicing teachers to share their work.
Education World can be used to locate resources such as lesson plans, research
materials, practical information for educators, information on how to integrate
technology in the classroom, articles written by education experts, site
reviews, daily features and columns, as well as teacher and principal profiles.
There are communication features such as chats with important names in
education, employment listings, and discussion boards.

Technical Requirements: Internet Explorer or Netscape browsers.
Identify Major Learning Goals: The purpose of the site is to provide a space and place for educators to share
lessons and units for instruction as well as ideas and insights for professional
development. Its goal is to make it easy for educators to integrate the

Strengths: This site offers daily ideas and insights pertinent to the teaching profession.
Specific lessons for P-12 students, as well as professional development
opportunities are organized and made available. In addition, the site offers a
safe search of 500,000 additional Web resources for P-12 teachers. Many of the
articles are written by well-respected leaders in the field of education. There
are also excellent articles written by practitioners in the field. The
information and links are up-to-date, with new resources featured each day.

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool

Rating: 5 stars
Strengths: The site offers useful examples across the curriculum and across the grade
levels for pre-service and in-service teachers to use and to inspire individual
teachers to create ways to integrate technology into teaching and learning. The
materials on the special preservice education part of this site provide
excellent resources for teacher education students. There are links for
learning how to teach, making lesson plans. finding a job, and managing a
classroom. The remaining resources would also provide wonderful information for
preservice teachers. The technology section provides reviews of Internet sites
and articles about integrating technology into the classroom. The discussion
boards could provide opportunities for preservice teachers to enter into
dialogues about education-related topics. There are also several newsletters to
which educators can subscribe for current and contemporary information.

Concerns: The site may be overwhelming because of the quantity of resources it offers!

Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty

Strengths: The site is attractive and easy to navigate. It is updated daily. There is a
search engine that includes advanced searching options. A browse feature is
also available for general perusing of the site. There are frames that include
both indexed information and links to related topics. The resources are
categorized in efficient ways, and within each section, there are subcategories
and grade-level distinctions.
Concerns: Some users might need to become familiar with how the search engine functions.

Other Issues and Comments: This site provides a high-quality "one-stop shopping" place for all things
related to education.
