Through this module, students of Chinese can practice characters, vocabulary, and reading and listening comprehension. The conversations in the video clips also help students acquire survival language skills. The videos present authentic situations that are interesting and conducive to language acquisition.
Concerns:
Although the instruction on the main page states that the English translation appears in a pop-up window, it is actually not the case in the exercises in Unit 1 as of the date of this review. In addition, the Chinese texts are presented in a mixture of traditional and simplified characters even though the instruction states that the transcripts are presented in traditional characters only.

This module can easily be incorporated into the curriculum. It can be used as a classroom activity or a homework assignment. The multimedia presentation is engaging, and the cross-linguistic transcription further enhances learning. Students can model after the video conversations in their own oral presentations and conversation practice.

This web site is rather easy to navigate, and a link is provided on the main page to the software (Quick Time) that is required to view the videos. The exercises for each video are placed in a separate frame, and they provide instant feedback that is user friendly.
Concerns:
Problems with the computer program not responding have been reported. Besides inconsistency in the presentation of the English translations (some in pop-up windows and some not), the print in Unit 1 is difficult to read. In addition, the navigation buttons could be marked more clearly to improve ease of use.
