Bioaccumulation & Biomagnification is part of an Ecosystems section within the Environmental Biology course site maintained by Marietta College. This site describes the processes of bioaccumulation and biomagnification of toxic substances in ecosystems. The site includes details on DDT as a specific example and provides a list of other significant toxic materials of interest, including DDT, PCBs, PAHs, and heavy metals, along with some case studies of how these substances harm the environment. There are numerous links to other sites with more information on these substances. There is also a basic review of ecology available for those students who may need to refresh their knowledge. There are several links to regulatory documents at the federal and international levels that are concerned with this problem. Learning material is mostly provided in text and tables.
