In recent years many psychology departments have been focusing on core  competencies and how methods of assessment can better enhance students’ learning. In response, the American Psychological Association (APA) established recommended goals for the undergraduate psychology major beginning in 2008 with a set of ten goals, and revised again in 2013 with a new set of five goals. Specific learning outcomes were established for each of the goals and suggestions were made on how best to tie assessment practices to these goals.
