Two Penny Acts (1755, 1758)

This is a good article about the Two Penny Acts of 1755 and 1758 written in partnership with the Library of Virginia and published in the Encyclopedia Virginia (EV), an authoritative and user-friendly resource on the history and culture of Virginia. Encyclopedia Virginia anthologizes the best and most current scholarship that exists on a given topic. In 2001, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) awarded Virginia Humanities a planning grant to study the feasibility of creating a comprehensive online resource focused on the history and culture of Virginia.

The General Assembly adopted the Two Penny Acts of 1755 and 1758 as temporary relief measures in response to the failure of the Virginia colony's tobacco crops.
