Hello, K1 Students & Families!

Welcome to our class website! Here you will find links to our weekly online content to support our hybrid learning experience this fall. On the homepage, I will post the two online lessons for each week with links to the Google slides content for you to review with your student(s) at home. This content will support what we will be reviewing during our weekly online Zoom class sessions on Wednesday's.

This website also details information for students and families to reference when uploading assignments to Google Classroom. Instruction for the assignments is provided in the Google slides content each week.

If you have any questions, I am happy to provide as much support as possible. My contact information, as well as my office hour information, is included on this website for reference.

Thank you all for your help, support, and patience during this time!

❤️, Mrs. Doykos

This week's online lesson content:

The Very Impatient Caterpillar Unit🐛

Unit Goals for Learning Segment: Students will be able to apply their prior knowledge of butterfly life cycles to predict what will happen in the book, The Very Impatient Caterpillar, and better understand the meaning of metamorphosis by reading this book. Students will be able to write about the events of what took place in the book and assess the accuracy of their prediction. Students will be able to express their opinion of the book and understand how to explain their opinion in writing by using the word “because.” Students will be able to apply their understanding of opinion writing to make connections between two similar books and effectively use “because” to explain their opinion of which book they prefer in writing. Students will be able to reflect and apply understanding of standard writing conventions in their written work.

Online Day 1: June 29th

Learning Objectives: Students will be able to apply what they understand about the life cycle of butterfly by predicting what will happen in the book, The Very Impatient Caterpillar. Students will be able to understand the life cycle of the butterfly by retelling what happened in the story through oral discussion and in their own writing.

This lesson reviews the "Make a Prediction!" writing assignment and asks for students to reference the Writing Checklist before submitting their work. A link to listen to a reading of The Very Impatient Caterpillar is included.
