Dealing With: InBev
InBev has made overtures to the City since the spill. They claim that Jerry was acting on his own initiative, and that this removes any fault InBev may have for environmental offences. They note that they have suspended Jerry and passed him over for a pending promotion; the correspondent raise would have amounted to an additional $20,000/year in personal income for Jerry. They have also volunteered to contribute up to half of the city’s remediation costs following the Jenkins incident, a quantity proximate to the loss of municipal property value. They claim that this will cover the damage caused, and that any further settlement would constitute double-recovery.
Advise the City on the situation. Is InBev’s assessment accurate?
