My Most Popular Anime

The word "anime" was created from the shortened English "animation" and means an animated film. In the Land of the Rising Sun, this term is used to describe all animated series and films, no matter where they were made. Outside of Japan, the word "anime" is also called Japanese animation. It consists of movies, TV series, and OAV (miniseries).

For the first time, the term was used by Japanese film theorist Taihei Imamura. In the 40s of the last century, it replaced the previously used term manga-eiga.

The history of Japanese animation began at the beginning of the 20th century. At that time, the Japanese began experimenting with the animation techniques used in Germany, the USA, Russia, and France. The first animated film created in the Land of the Rising Sun was a five-minute work by Oten Shimokawa, entitled "Imokawa Mukuzō Genkanban no Maki" (1917). However, the 1918 "Momotarō" by Seitarō Kitayama 1918 was recognized as the first global success of Japanese animation.

Anime is not just a story for kids. It is also great entertainment for adults. There are many great series out there that can delight both horror and romance fans. You can even find out which anime character you are!

If you've never seen any anime before, it's high time to change that! There are many brilliant titles that can convince even the most reluctant.

It is worth remembering that each anime is dedicated to a specific audience. E.g:

shoujo - anime for teenage girls

shounen - anime for teenage boys

josei - anime for older teens and women

seinen - anime for older teens and men

In our culture, animations are associated mostly with cartoons for the youngest. And although it's starting to change a little, it's hard to argue with it: most animated series is created with a younger audience in mind. These proportions could look a bit different if we take Japan into account - the thematic and climatic spectrum in Anime is so wide that… probably everyone will find something for themselves. Most of those born in the '80s and 90's probably had great associations with such titles as Dragon Ball, Daimos, Captain Tsubasa, or Pokemon. From this set, Netflix offer includes only the latter, but it does not mean that there are no titles that are worth giving a chance.
