- Rick is the Associate Director of SkillsCommons Workforce Development Digital Library (To learn more, see below).
- Assistant professor of educational leadership at Texas A&M University-Commerce where he was the architect and director of the Master of Science Global eLearning Program (2008-2014).
- Editor-in-chief of the International Peer-Reviewed Journal of Online Learning and Teaching (JOLT) (2014-2016).
- Founder and editor-in-chief of the Global e-Learning Journal and has served on the editorial board of several journals.
- He is a prolific author who has published on a wide range of issues in higher education.
SkillsCommons.org was designed and managed by the California State University Long Beach and its MERLOT program for the Department of Labor’s TAACCCT program under a 4+ year cooperative agreement (2014-2018).
SkillsCommons is the largest Open Educational Resources (OER) project in the world!
Rick's responsibilities included:
- Managing and supporting the collection and curation program for the 256 TAACCCT Grant Projects comprised of 700 institutions across all 50 states.
- Providing guidance, recommendations, training, and professional development to faculty, program directors, administrators, technology staff, and college support staff for packaging and contributing their Open Educational Resources into the Skills Commons Online repository.
- Providing leadership in the coordination and management of CSU-MERLOT services with the Department of Labor and the various technical assistance organizations (e.g. JFF, Creative Commons, CAST) to ensure TAACCCT grantees successfully completed the requirements for their TAACCCT grant deliverables.
