Bevery Cleary, 4/12/1916 - 3/26/2021
This guide is created to highlight the life of this great children's author. Her books are still read and enjoyed today just like they were when she first wrote them. She wanted to create stories that children could relate to and also have fun reading, so she became a librarian and an author. Her books have stood the test of time and are now classics. I enjoyed reading her books as a child and also read them to my son when when he has young. I deliver books by bicycle with an organization called Ride for Reading and children still look for her books. Beverly Cleary wanted children to know "that reading is a pleasure and not just something that you have to do in school"; There is a statue garden in northeast Portland, Oregon, the setting of her stories, with statues of her famous characters and funded by children all over the world. It was dedicated on October 13, 1995. Her books have been translated into 14 different languages.
