Critical Thinking & Digital Literacy

Discovery exercise 1

As a school librarian it is of utmost importance for to learn more about critical thinking and digital literacy so that I can educate my school community about the same. We drowning in information due to advancement of technology, reducing our world into the palm of our hands. This is not only beneficial but at the same time has hazards if we are not well informed and have requisite skills to avoid future inconvenience.

I explored a few tools and the ones I found really useful are:

A video on Karmatube , which discusses the hazards of surfing from page to page on the Internet without taking time to deeply consider what we are interacting with. It brings this point to our attention so that we instead take time to try to focus and contemplate on the information that we do come across. I found this video not only informative but the presentation and style is simple and well organized. I explored some other videos as well which have excellent educational content. So, besides this I found Karmatube to be an alternative for video search.

Discovery exercise 2

The resource I explored is a site which contains the list of the top 10 sites that helps students, or anyone, determine the bias and accuracy of information, which is published by International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). I found this site under Digital Literacy and found this site to be exceptional in terms of the resources listed. They are not just fact or news checking sites. There are some sites that can be made use in classroom to teach Digital Literacy and study comparison between truth or fiction. I would be using it in my school with students and teachers.
