Topic 2: Three Principles of UDL - Three Brain Networks
Topic 2: Three Principles of UDL - Three Brain Networks
The Universal Design for Learning framework is grounded in three broad principles which are foundational to learning. These principles are to provide multiple means of representation, provide multiple means of engagement, and provide multiple means of action and expression. These principles align with the neurological organization of the brain; the recognition networks (the “what” of learning), affective networks (the “why” of learning) and strategic networks (“how” of learning) and help educators address the predictable variability in learning.
Topic Learning Outcomes:
- Explain how the affective, recognition, and strategic networks relate to the HOW, the WHY, and the WHAT of learning variability.
- Determine how the application of the principles of UDL ensure that all learners can access and participate in meaningful and challenging learning opportunities.
- Apply the HOW, the WHY, and the WHAT of learning to various scenarios in the learning environment.
