The Adventures of OneFile, the Lonely Database
The Adventures of OneFile, the Lonely Database
This is a story about me, the library database named Academic OneFile who loves facts and helping people find answers to their questions. I also have a sister, General OneFile. She includes newspaper articles in her search. Students are always going to Mr. Google instead me. That makes me sad because I know I can help them better. Students say, "I need a topic idea." I have a built-in Topic Finder feature. Just type in any keyword and I will help you find information on that topic.

I can also help students find other keywords and related resources.

I have two twin brothers who also can find information on any topic.
Their names are Academic Search and OmniFile.

For finding information about literature, go to either of these two friendly little database friends of mine:
JSTOR and Literature Resource Center.
JSTOR has full-text articles all the way back to the beginning of the journal, but does not contain any full-text the last few years.

Literature Resource Center has cuttent full text articles.

For topic ideas let me introduce you to these two database friends of mine, Gale in Context: College and Opposing Viewpoints in Context.
Walk among their topics, and you will find all of the answers to your questions.

I also want to introduce you to another one of my good friends, SIRS, for finding current topic ideas.
Take a walk among any of her topics, and you are sure to find an interesting topic to learn and write about.
Check out her "Climate Change" page on your walk.
Clicking on any of of her topics will help you explore great articles that will help you learn about what you want to discover.

For finding primary source news articles from old newspapers, I have several special friends I want to introduce you to. They all love doing historical research and finding out the real stories about how history actually happened from people who were actually there. Primary sources are sources that were written by people who lived in the day when the event actually happened. They could also be called firsthand stories.
My history loving friends names are American's Historical Newspapers, Nineteenth Century Newspapers, Historical Tennessean, Historical New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, (New York) Times Machine, and Chronicling America.
For business topics and company information, my great friends Business Insights and Gale Business Entrepreneurship would love to help you.
Business Insights loves to help find all kinds of company statistics and histories. He can search by company name, industry, keyword, or even article title. He also loves to compare companies.

Gale Entrepreneurship will help you start your small business.

Databases like me let you create journal and search alerts for the journals, magazines or newspapers you may want to read every day.
Go to any of my Onefile family of database members and do a publication search or a keyword topic search.
Then, go to "Create journal alert" or "Create search alert" found in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

I hope you have enjoyed following me on this database trail and learned that Mr. Google does not always have the right answers. Databases love to do research and help, too.
We databases want to invite you to come visit your campus librarians and library staff, and ask them any questions you might have about doing research for your class assignments here at Nashville State Community College.
You can visit the library either in person or virtually for all your research needs..
