Brief Description of course highlights: IME 270: Project Management for Community Projects, IME 314: Engineering Economics, IME 443: Facilities Planning and Design
Original textbooks are: Newnan D. G, Lavelle, J. P. & Eschenbach, T.G Engineering Economic Analysis, 10th Edition. Oxford, 2009. ISBN 978-0-19-539463-4; Tompkins, J.A., White, J.A., Bozer, Y.A., & Tanchoco, J.M.A., Facilities Planning, 4th Edition. John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Hoboken, NJ, 2003."
Student population: About 250 Graduate students
Learning or student outcomes: "From reflections mostly on flipped classroom:
'I like having the freedom to being able to watch lectures and learn material on my own time.'
'I really like how you post videos on Polylearn of you solving problems. This has really helped me learn all the material in this class. Making this class very flexible brings a positive attitude to this class (at least for me)'
'Amazing, learning outside the classroom was encouraged. No pressure to miss any notes
Key challenges faced and how resolved: "It is quite a bit of work to vet the resources. It also takes a brave soul to make videos of yourself. Both these have required courage."

OER/Low Cost Adoption Process
Provide an explanation or what motivated you to use this textbook or OER/Low Cost option. I believe that faculty and published textbooks are no longer the only source of information for our students. Our students need to learn to navigate a world of information that isn’t necessarily authorized. This is my attempt to teach within this context. In addition, information is free. It is my belief that people shouldn’t be making money through ownership of information.
How did you find and select the open textbook for this course? More aware of the organization of my Polylearn site. Also, using online videos have allowed to change much in my pedagogy. I now use a flipped classroom and a different grading method called competency grading. None of these changes would be possible with out OER."
Sharing Best Practices: "I feel better not requiring students to spend hundreds of dollars on textbooks and I think we all, students and myself, need to learn to navigate the information online."
