Topic 3: The UDL Matrix and its Application

The UDL Matrix is a graphic organizer of the UDL Framework. It was developed by CAST to provide concrete support for educators and others who wished to apply the UDL Framework. The UDL matrix is a set of concrete suggestions that can be applied to instructional design to reduce barriers and maximize learning opportunities according to specific learner goals.  According to CAST, there is no set order in which to use the framework and one would not use every guideline in a single learning opportunity. Educators are encouraged to “strategically mix and match Guidelines and Considerations that reduce barriers and support all learners in reaching the learning goal” (CAST, 2018).
