Poverty definition: When you cannot provide for your basic human needs of food, clothing and shelter. Sometimes the situation you are in can affect this. Being in or finding a community can help.get you out of poverty.

Thistle Farms (Nashville} Thistle Farms is a nonprofit social enterprise dedicated to helping women survivors recover and heal from prostitution, trafficking, and addiction. We do this by providing a safe place to live, a meaningful job, and a lifelong sisterhood of support.
Mt Juliet Help Center (Tennessee) Known as a food bank, but the Mt. Juliet Help Center also assists with emergency utility payments.

Basic human need is to be understood.
People in poverty are still human being. They need opportunity.
The answer to poverty is poverty informed people.
Realize that our experience is not theirs. We are all different.
Generational poverty is the deepest type of poverty.-- steels that sense of hope. Having hope builds convidence. Getting an education means stress. Social norms are not taught.

Immigrant poverty -- cultural differences. They arrive with the wings of hope.
Situational poverty.
Notice people. Know peoples names. Don't use titles.
Use titles to advocacte.
The best way to learn is to teach.

Operation Stand Down Tennessee -- help for veterans
The Veterans Affairs office at Nashville State has partnered with Operation Stand Down Tennessee (OSDTN), a nonprofit that provides and connects veterans and their families with services, to let students and all veterans know about Operation Commissary.
Operation Commissary is a new initiative of OSDTN to address food insecurity among Veterans in Middle Tennessee. This resource provides non-perishable food along with instructions to receive additional grocery assistance.
To receive a box, fill out a short form, found by clicking on the link below, and include a copy of your DD-214. OSDTN can help Veterans obtain their DD-214, if needed. A box of non-perishable food is delivered to the Veterans home, no need to schedule a pickup. A gift card for perishable food items is also provided to each person in the Veterans household. Operation Commissary is available for all veterans, regardless of income.
