What's that bird?

Blue tit

The blue tit is a small and colourful bird. Like the other kinds of tit, they eat insects, berries, nuts and seeds. They really like peanuts as a treat!

How to recognise a blue tit

A blue tit is smaller than a great tit. The top of their head, their tail and wings are all blue. They have a yellow belly with a small blue patch or stripe, and white cheeks. Their beak is small and fine.

Size: 12 cm

Sound: the blue tit sings a short series of high tweets, like ‘tweet-twit-twit-twit-twit’.

Did you know?

In winter, blue tits sometimes form a group with other kinds of tit and small birds. Together they roam around looking for food.
