Academic Year 2022-2023

Our campus adopted Canvas as our Learning Management System (LMS) in the Fall 2022 semester. To facilitate the transition from Moodle to Canvas, a 4-week synchronized Summer Canvas Teaching Institute was offered in the summer of 2022. In addition, a virtual Canvas Conference was hosted from March 16-20, 2023. No Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT) call was made in the Fall 2022 semester due to the above transition. Nine courses were reviewed in the Spring 2023 semester. Three have reached the 24 core objectives and 85% of the QLT standards. A special Summer QLT project was conducted in Summer 2023 to review 10 Sociology online courses ( the Sociology Department at CSU San Marcos provided the funding for the reviewers for this project).

Goal 1 and Outcomes

Goal: Develop an outreach plan for the CSU CO Certification. Identify and contact faculty who have successfully completed CSUSM QLT Certification and encourage them to complete the system-wide certification, in order to have more of our courses in CSU Fully Online Program.

Outcomes:

  • Two workshops were conducted in the Fall 2022 semester. Workshop #1:  Learn How to Use the new QLT Rubric; Workshop #2:  What is the Benefit of Knowing what QLT is.
  • One course (MKTG 310, Personal Branding) has obtained the system-wide certification. The course successfully met the criteria for QLT certification using the 53 items QLT rubric.

Goal 2 and Outcomes

Goal: Build capacity to grow the QLT Program by increasing the number of reviewers.

Outcomes:

  • Five new reviewers were recruited. Four faculty members have completed the "Introduction to Teaching Online Using QLT training" course and are in the process of getting qualified to be the reviewers.
  • In the Summer 2023:  3 faculty /staff members completed the "Introduction to Teaching Online Using QLT training" course. 3 faculty / staff members completed the "Advanced QLT Course in Teaching Online" course.

Goal 3 and Outcomes

Goal: Continue to provide professional development opportunities to improve online teaching.

Outcomes:

  • 4-week synchronous Summer Canvas Teaching Institute was offered in the summer of 2022.
  • A flipped workshop was offered to instructors teaching high DFW courses: Inclusive, Engaged, and Active Pedagogy in Canvas.
  • A virtual Canvas Conference was hosted from March 16-20, 2023.

Goal 4 and Outcomes

Goal: Continuous to review courses internally with the QLT rubric and ensure that the reviewed courses meet the 24 core and 85%.
