Academic Year 2024-2025
Academic Year 2024-2025
During the 2024–2025 academic year, our campus launched its second Quality Learning and Teaching Faculty Learning Community (QLT FLC). To enhance accessibility and participation, two new tracks were introduced: one for faculty who had previously completed the QLT training course and another for those without prior experience. We successfully recruited five instructors from four departments across two colleges.
Concurrently, we offered the “Introduction to Teaching Online Using QLT” course on campus for the second time. One participating faculty member had already earned the Certificate of Completion, while the remaining four completed the course and received their certificates as part of the FLC program.
Throughout the year, six workshops were held for FLC participants. Notably, we achieved a 100% completion rate within the nine-month timeframe. All five instructors earned their QLT Certificates by the end of the Spring 2025 semester and presented their work at the Annual Faculty Center Expo.
In addition, four faculty members from the Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) program participated in CSUSM’s online professional development initiative, Developing Effective and Quality Online Courses. As part of this program, they completed the three-week “Introduction to Teaching Online Using QLT” course along with three supplementary modules focused on QLT best practices. Furthermore, a total of 19 courses underwent local QLT review in Fall 2024: nine in Speech-Language Pathology and ten in Sociology.
Goal 1: Create Two Tracks for Quality Online Learning and Teaching Faculty Learning Community (QLT FLC)
Track 1: Participants who have completed the 3-week Introduction to Teaching Online with QLT course before joining the QLT FLC
Track 2: Participants who do not complete the 3-week introduction to Teaching Online with QLT Course before joining the QLT FLC.
Outcomes:
- 5 Instructors from 4 different departments across 2 colleges participated in the FLC.
- 1 Instructor was on Track 1 and 4 instructors were on Track 2.
- Facilitated the “Introduction to Teaching Online Using QLT” course on our campus for the second time.
- All 4 instructors on Track 2 earned their certificates for the "Introduction to Teaching Online Using QLT" course as part of the FLC program.
- 6 Workshops were conducted for the QLT FLC.
- All 5 instructors received their QLT Certificates by the end of April and showcased their achievements at the Annual Faculty Center Teaching & Learning Expo on May 2, 2025.

Other Courses That Have Undergone Local QLT Review
In Fall 2024, four Speech and Language Pathology (SLP) faculty members participated in CSUSM's online professional development program, Developing Effective and Quality Online Courses. As part of this program, they completed the three-week Introduction to Teaching Online with QLT course, along with three additional modules focused on QLT best practices. Additionally, 9 Speech Language Pathology (SLP) and 10 Sociology courses underwent local QLT review in Fall 2024.
Goal 2: Encourage Participants in the QLT FLC to Disseminate the Quality Learning and Teaching Student Feedback Survey.
Outcomes:
- The faculty participating in the review process are encouraged to conduct this survey next time
Goal 3: Conduct Workshops on How AI Can Elevate Teaching and Learning.
Outcomes:
- A Workshop with the title: “Course Development with Generative AI” was delivered on November 8, 2024.
- Another workshop with the title: "Principles of Good Teaching for all Modalities" was delivered on April 11, 2025.
Goal 4: Increase the Number of Informal, Campus-level Peer Reviews.
Outcomes: Our endeavors to provide more faculty training on how to be a QLT reviewer have enabled us to shift to a new review format that has allowed a nimbler and streamlined local review process. We have also had an increase in faculty responding to calls for reviewer work and have not faced any shortage issues of finding reviewers, which used to be a concern in more recent years.
