Gig work, Surveillance, and Our Future.
Gig work, Surveillance, and Our Future.
Today, workers have less options for work every week with the "all-in on AI" strategy many large corporations are beginning to adopt, many companies are keeping employee cost low by not hiring new employees, and many working people are brought to gig work as income. Gig work is preferred by companies like doordash, amazon, and uber because if you're a contractor you don't need to receive any benefits and aren't on any actual payroll. The present is an echo of the past, low wages, safe conditions aren't promised, and they have no say in what their work could look like under these companies.
The surveillance state, already being a tool used against workers, has now bleed into the lives of every American today. Politicians with their pockets lined with corporate money perpetuate the need for surviellance and the need to focus on the "real issue" as to why the average American is getting poorer and poorer, with less upward mobility. This is is said to be immigrants and DEI, of course, while neglecting the root cause of inequality in this nation.
The future of the American worker can be shaped by unity across industries. It can be shaped by politicians who run their campaigns on either people or profit. It can be shaped by the people and the demand to hold capitalist accountable for their actions against the worker in America.
While the fight will be long and difficult, it is not impossible.
