2025-2026 CSUSB Quality Online Teaching ePortfolio
2025-2026 CSUSB Quality Online Teaching ePortfolio
Campus Goals for Online Course Services
Goal 1: Build on momentum for quality online learning through the Quality Online Teaching Program (QOTP). In Fall 2025, 17 faculty completed QLT courses, and an additional six completed OCS-supported AI courses. In Spring 2026, four faculty were enrolled in the Advanced QLT course. In addition, 17 faculty are currently participating in the Quality Online Teaching Program, where they are developing courses aligned with QLT Core 24 standards with support from instructional designers and with departmental commitments to offer these courses within two years. To support scaling course quality efforts, we have developed a QLT Core 24 Canvas course that will soon be deployed to enable faculty to conduct structured self-reviews. Participation in QM/QLT self-reviews has been limited this year; this new tool is expected to substantially increase engagement moving forward.
Goal 2: Provide faculty with professional development and support in Canvas and emerging technologies. We have significantly expanded AI-related professional development. 37 faculty enrolled in our eight-hour asynchronous “GenAI in Teaching and Learning” course, and 14 enrolled in the intermediate “GenAI in Action” course. In addition, 10 faculty are participating in the AI Educational Innovations Challenge grant program, and a new 15-hour synchronous AI Retrofit program which debuted in March 2026 and graduated 10 faculty.
We continue to provide ongoing instructional design support and Canvas assistance, maintaining strong engagement in faculty development programming across modalities.
Online Course Services Lead
-- Bradford Owen, AVP for Faculty Development and Chief Academic Technologies Officer
Supporting Campus Partners
-- The Faculty Center for Excellence’s (FCE’s) Instructional Design and Academic Technologies (IDAT) unit. IDAT provides academic technologies-related certificate programs and development of quality online courses and excellent online teaching and learning via its six-person instructional designer team and an LMS administrator.
-- The FCE’s Teaching Resource Center (TRC) unit, which provides faculty development generally and also collaborated with our IDAT team on the creation of our two GenAI and teaching courses.
–The FCE’s Faculty Mentoring Program (FMP) unit took the lead on facilitating our new AI Retrofit Institute in March 2026 and provides guidance on navigating academic culture to all probationary tenure-line faculty.
-- The John M. Pfau Library, which collaborates with other campus entities to provide instructional support to both faculty and students.
Campus Commitment Toward Sustainability of OCS Efforts
-- The Division of Academic Affairs provided $80,000 for support of faculty professional development awards, a majority of which went to certificate programs and institutes supporting faculty training in pedagogies applicable to asynchronous online instruction including GenAI
Conferences
FMP DIrector Ece Algan and FCE AVP Bradford Owen co-presented with colleagues from Chico, San Diego, and Sonoma on CSUSB's iteration of Zach Justus's AI Retrofit curriculum and their other AI and pedagogy efforts at the CSU Fullerton "AI & Academia: The Future of Critical Thinking" conference, February, 20, 2026
Training Completions
56 CSUSB faculty completed OCS QLT and QM courses in 2025-26, and another 28 completed OCS AI courses for faculty and staff.

Next Steps for OCS Efforts
-- Build on momentum for quality online learning. We will continue to expand and refine the Quality Online Teaching Program, supporting current and future cohorts of faculty in completing the Advanced QLT course and developing QLT Core 24-aligned courses. Activities will include structured instructional design support, milestone-based progress tracking, and deployment of the new QLT Core 24 Canvas self-review course to increase faculty participation in quality assurance processes. We will also encourage selected faculty to pursue full QLT or QM certification.
-- Expand faculty capacity in effective teaching with Canvas and generative AI. We will continue to offer robust professional development in academic technologies and pedagogy, with a particular emphasis on AI integration. This includes scaling our “GenAI in Teaching and Learning” and “Responding to GenAI” courses, learning from our AI Educational Innovations Challenge program, and refining and scaling the AI Retrofit program. We will also maintain workshops, resources, and instructional design support to help faculty integrate these tools into high-quality, student-centered course design.
