Learning Exercise

Organ Systems

A lecture on the organization of the body. Students wil learn that cells are the smallest building blocks of life. Cells makes tissue, tissues make organs, and organs make organ systems. Teacher will have students do two worksheets, and use colored transparencies, and an internet site to explain organ systems.
Course: 7th grade Life Science

Excellent visuals, and animations of the human organ systems see more

Teacher will have two worksheets for students. Teacher will begin by adding the words organ, tissue and orgsan system to the word bank. Students will copy down definitions from the overhead. Teacher will use URL and colored transparencies to explain the organization of the body and organ systems. Teacher will ask volunteers to read each worksheet. She will question individual students, and have then come up front to fill the worksheet transparencies. She will dicuss answers with the class. Students will do that lst sectio on the workshhets for homework.

Students Should have an understanding of Cell Biolology. Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells, cell organelles, etc.

What are tissues and Organs? What is an Organ System?

Type of Task

Learning Objectives

Students be able to understand and explain that plants and animals have levels of organization for structure and function, including cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, and the whole organism (5.a) Students be able to explain that organ systems function because of the contributions of individual cells, organs and tissues. The failure of any part can affect the whole system (5.b)

Teacher will review answers on worksheets to check for understanding. Students will have a question on the organization of the body for the test.
