Exercise

1. Students will look up the number of sunspots that occurred on their most recent birthday.
2. Using a Cartesian plane, graph the sunspots, in chronological order, with the students at their table (collaborative work).
3. Using the information in #2, contribute their information to the class graph, by period, so analysis can happen and conclusions drawn over the course of the entire group.
4. Extensions could be to have the students do a graph the number of sunspots that occurred on their birthday over the five years of data available on the above listed site.

Review method of creating a line graph, number of sunspots on y axis, monthly dates on x axis.

Requirements

Language Arts (ELD III level or higher ) reading, basic computer use, Mathematics skills of graphing information on a Cartesian plane.
