This site is an interactive triangle calculator where the user enters in some features of a triangle and the computer computes all other features and then sketched a graph using Geogebra.
Type of Material:
This site can be used in class, at home, or for individual learning.
Identify Major Learning Goals:
To learn about the relationship between various features of a triangle.
Target Student Population:
Students in Geometry or Trigonometry.
Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills:
General knowledge of triangles.
The use of the module begins by having the user enter in typically three pieces of information about a triangle such as two sides and an included angle. Then all the rest of the features are presented including the side lengths, angles, height from the sides, perimeter and area. There is an option for degrees and radians. Also, when the “Draw” button is pushed, the user is sent to a Geogebra page that has a plethora of information about the triangle. In both the initial page and the Geogebra page, the triangle is drawn. It can be viewed in either English or Spanish.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
This interactive activity is a wonderful learning tool for students studying the relationships between angles, sides, and other features of a triangle. It is easy to write open ended assignments for and can be an effective discovery tool. This module can be effectively used as a part of in-class demonstration or at home during self-guided activity.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
There is an instructions page that clearly states how to use the activity. It includes pictures and step-by-step instructions. Even without the instructions page, this is an intuitive learning activity and students will have no difficulty using it.
To be more engaging, interactivity, color, navigation menu, and other design enhancements are recommended.
