Overview:: Reproduced in the Journal of Accountancy online, this article by Cheryl Meyers appears in the AICPA's CPA Insider. It provides a synopsis of five TED talks of particular interest to prospective and current accounting professionals. Strengths:: The variety of presenters and topics may result in individuals having different preferences for selected videos. The strength of the article is to get the viewer thinking about these concepts which are needed to succeed in the accounting profession and life in general. Content is timely and relevant to the profession from a leadership standpoint. Concepts are integrated and summarized well.
Concerns:: None.

Rating:
Strengths:: These presentations are beneficial by providing exposure on ways to improve soft skills related to a variety identified and desired competencies for accountants. Any single one of the videos would be useful, depending on the course or topic. One would not have to do all the videos to receive value from this learning object.

Strengths:: The videos are professionally done and the presenters are excellent, dynamic speakers! The experience is spiritually moving and movie-like.

Other Issues and Comments:: Recommending TED Talks to our students is a good way to get them to develop the habit of taking charge of their own professional development. Having this synopsis of several quality videos is a helpful start for those who might not have known about the TED Talks program.
